Individual, Couple, and Family Counseling

In addition to directing Therapy Training Boston, Liz Brenner, LICSW, maintains a part time private practice.

There are many ways to solve problems and live a good life. Finding the right help for each situation is a unique balance of being seen and heard, working to change the present and recovering from the past. I will help you clarify your intentions and meet your goals. In my experience, change happens when we develop deeper understandings of and compassion for ourselves and others. My style is warm and direct, helping you change patterns that are no longer serving you.

My approach is grounded in theory, caring and common sense with a transtheoretical family systems approach as primary. My thinking has been influenced by social work, family therapy, psychology, organizational development, recovery orientations and ancient healing traditions. I am well grounded in dealing with many problems, specializing in relationship work. I have Level 2 EMDR, Level 2 LifeForce Yoga, Level 3 Certified Internal Family Systems, Intimacy from the Inside Out and AEDP for Couples training. Ideas about how couples and families work is a specialty I bring to support change even when there is one client in the room. My working model takes into account the way our socio-cultural-political milieu creates problems.

Living with a father who was affected by mental illness is a significant factor in my clinical approach. In particular, ideas about coping, resilience as well as knowing how to set limits and create safety while respecting all family members. My model of working is greatly influenced by my desire for people to find ways to live more peacefully and capably with their unique gifts and despite their challenges.

My second floor office has access to free on-street parking.
